Aloe Blacc - I Need A Dollar - Stone Throw Records
There is something so classic in this song, channeling the ghost of soul singers past. So simple, Aloe’s voice dancing over the horns, keys and a thumping bass.
I love the track for its soulful groove but also the political subtext resonating in the song’s lyrics. Aloe says that his new album is transition from the personal to the political, from the mc to the soul singer. He says his lyrics dont openly confront but linger in your mind challenging the status quo.
Even if the music itself does not explicitly express anything that may signify positive social change, the product of the music will.
His second album, Good Things, is due for release sometime this year. I expect big things.
